Generate and Read QR Codes Online from Text, Links, and Images
Summary:Create a downloadable QR code from text or a URL, or decode a QR image in your browser. Learn how to make codes easier to scan and inspect their links.
Xian's Tools provides two companion QR tools:
Both run in your browser. The content you enter and the images you select are not sent to a processing server.
Generate a QR code
- Open QR Code Encoder.
- Enter a URL or text, such as contact details or written connection instructions.
- The QR code updates as you type, with no separate generation button.
- Include the URL scheme, as in
https://example.com, so scanners can recognize it as a link. - Keep the content short. More data produces a denser code, which may be harder to scan at small print sizes. A shortened URL can help with very long links.
- Test before printing with several phones, especially before a large print run.
- Chinese text is supported, along with other text you enter.
Common uses
- Add a portfolio or personal website link to a business card or résumé.
- Put a registration link on an event poster.
- Attach short written instructions to a physical item.
Read a QR code from an image
- Open QR Code Decoder.
- Click Select File and choose an image or screenshot containing the code.
- Read the result and click Copy to ClipBoard to use it elsewhere.
If recognition fails
If the tool displays Something Wrong~, try the following:
- Use a clear image containing the complete code, ideally near the center.
- Avoid heavy filters or compression that blur the pattern.
If the code occupies only a small part of the image, use Image Cropper to isolate it before trying again.
When decoding an image is useful
- You received a QR image on your computer and do not want to scan it with a phone.
- You want to inspect the destination before opening it.
- You need to copy a long piece of text stored in the code.
Check unfamiliar links
A QR code can hide a phishing URL. Decode an unfamiliar code first and inspect the domain before visiting it. Avoid entering account credentials or payment details on an untrusted destination.
